Tourism in Porto and the North grows above the national average

Tourism in Porto and Northern Portugal grew by around 8% in the first months of 2025, exceeding the national average. In 2024, the region reached a record of 7.4 million tourists.

According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), these were the figures for the 1st quarter of 2025:

  • Tourist revenue: +4.8% (956M €)

  • Guests: +2.3% (5.7M)

  • Overnight stays: -0.5%, affected by the Easter calenda

 

During the QSP Summit, which took place from July 1 to 3, 2025, Luís Pedro Martins, president of Turismo do Porto e Norte de Portugal, highlighted the region's strategic role in business tourism (MICE), supported by modern infrastructure, excellent air connectivity and a strong cultural offer.

 

“Northern Portugal has all the conditions to be this ‘hub’ of excellence in this segment: accessibility, modern infrastructure, an excellent airport, good connectivity, 110 routes currently operated by more than 30 airlines, and a very diverse and high-quality cultural and gastronomic offer”.
